Two young newlyweds tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident involving a suspected drunk driver. João Pedro Prudêncio Cardoso and Maynara França Schio were on a Yamaha MT-03 motorcycle when they collided with a black Ford Ecosport driven by Dyonatha Chaves Oliveira, 36, who was allegedly driving under the influence. The couple, who had recently tied the knot on August 28, succumbed to their injuries at the crash site on the PA-160 highway in Parauapebas, Brazil, around 1 am on Sunday.
Following the incident, the suspect underwent medical treatment and appeared in court the next day. He faces charges of drunk driving-related manslaughter. Prosecutors requested his remand in custody due to his alleged intoxication level, while the defense highlighted his lack of prior criminal record, stable residence, and employment.
Ultimately, Judge Juliana Lima Souto Augusto granted bail of £2,090 (BRL 15,000) to the suspect. Additionally, his driver’s license was revoked, and he must report to court monthly, with restrictions on leaving the district without prior approval. Investigations into the tragic deaths of the young couple are ongoing.
This incident follows another horrifying crash in the UK, where a 17-year-old boy lost his life in a single-vehicle collision involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa on Jackson Heights Road in Lancashire. The driver died at the scene, while four teenage passengers sustained minor injuries. Authorities reported that the car veered off the road and landed in an embankment, with the driver found unresponsive and the others taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
