“Photographer at US Open Claims Victimhood”

Must Read

The photographer involved in Daniil Medvedev’s outburst at the US Open claims to be a “victim” who has faced significant repercussions following the incident. Medvedev directed his frustration at umpire Greg Allensworth during his match against Benjamin Bonzi when the photographer entered the court.

During a crucial moment in the match, as Bonzi was serving for the win in the third set, Allensworth intervened and instructed the photographer to leave the court. Consequently, Bonzi received a second first serve, leading to Medvedev’s discontent with the decision.

Medvedev rushed towards the umpire to express his displeasure and was observed smashing his racket in frustration. Subsequently, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) revoked the photographer’s accreditation and had him escorted out of the Louis Armstrong Stadium by security.

The photographer, Selcuk Acar, refuted any wrongdoing and asserted his innocence, planning to pursue legal action to address the revocation of his credentials. Acar maintained that an official had directed him to approach the court during the ongoing action.

“I’m completely innocent and a victim in this situation,” Acar stated to the Daily Mail. “Despite being innocent, I have suffered immensely due to this incident.”

Medvedev eventually lost the match 6-3 7-5 6-7 (5-7) 0-6 6-4 and remarked on his emotional outburst, noting the crowd’s reaction to his actions. He engaged in a heated exchange with Allensworth, questioning the umpire’s conduct and referencing past criticisms from other players.

Sky has announced a discounted Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming season, offering members savings and an extensive coverage of live matches, including over 1,400 games across various leagues. The package includes a significant increase in the number of live Premier League matches to be broadcast next season.
