A convicted rapist, Christian Brueckner, who is a suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, reportedly hinted to a shopkeeper in Germany that he possesses crucial information to resolve what has been dubbed the “scandal of the century.” The revelation came as he allegedly sought to purchase a mobile phone that couldn’t be traced shortly after his recent release from prison.
Brueckner, aged 49, had just completed a seven-year sentence for the rape of an elderly woman in Praia da Luz back in 2005. Despite his release, the Metropolitan Police, along with authorities in Portugal and Germany, continue to investigate his potential involvement in the disappearance of the three-year-old girl.
During a visit to a store, Brueckner supposedly suggested that he had sensitive information that could bring an end to significant accusations against him, as recounted by the shop’s worker who captured the encounter on CCTV. He mentioned the potential use of USB sticks and hinted at having a solution to his situation.
The shopkeeper, Farouk Salah-Brahmin, disclosed that Brueckner insinuated that he possessed knowledge beyond the public domain but had not shared it with the authorities. Brueckner allegedly expressed concerns about his safety, implying that he might not survive for long due to his insider knowledge.
According to Farouk, Brueckner also made cryptic references to being monitored and hinted at potential threats to his life. German police heightened their surveillance after Brueckner’s attempt to acquire an untraceable phone without proper registration, an unlawful act. Farouk further claimed that Brueckner sought to purchase a Sim card without providing identification.
Despite being subject to court orders, Brueckner’s identification reportedly showed no travel restrictions, raising concerns about his potential movements. Following his release, Brueckner initially stayed in Kiel but later expressed intentions to establish a new life in a different city, emphasizing plans for a permanent residence.
Brueckner has been under suspicion in the Madeleine McCann case since 2020, but formal charges have not been filed against him. He was freed from incarceration in September after serving time for the assault of an elderly woman in Portugal.
