Reba McEntire has officially announced her engagement to her longtime partner, Rex Linn. This revelation follows the recent passing of her stepson, Brandon Blackstock. The 70-year-old, known for her appearances on The Voice US alongside Niall Horan and Michael Buble, seemingly confirmed the news while attending the Emmy Awards with Rex. During the event, Rex was introduced as Reba’s fiancé for the first time, marking a significant step in their relationship. Despite being part of the same sitcom, Happy’s Place, Reba did not shy away from addressing their engagement when speaking to Zuri Hall.
The couple’s relationship dates back to 1991 when they worked together in The Gambler, but it wasn’t until 2020 on the set of Young Sheldon that they began dating. Reba has been open about her feelings for Rex and her willingness to take their relationship to the next level, despite having been married twice before. Notably, one of Reba’s former husbands was Narvel Blackstock, Brandon’s father, who passed away in 2015. Brandon, who was previously married to Kelly Clarkson, tragically succumbed to cancer in early August at the age of 48.
Attending the Emmys, Reba participated in a tribute to The Golden Girls’ 40th anniversary, performing the sitcom’s theme song alongside Karen Farechild and Kimberly Schlapman from Little Big Town. Following the performance, they presented the award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, which was won by Hacks’ Hannah Einbinder. Einbinder used her acceptance speech to express support for her favorite sports team, criticize the American immigration enforcement agency, and advocate for a free Palestine.
