“Ryanair’s Refusal: Grieving Passenger Denied £380 Flight Refund”

Must Read

Mary McHale expressed her frustration with Ryanair after being denied a £380 refund for canceling her flight to Brussels following a family tragedy. McHale, a Dublin resident, had planned a girls’ trip but had to cancel due to the sudden passing of her brother-in-law, Alan McHale, three days before her scheduled departure.

Despite reaching out to Ryanair immediately to request a cancellation, McHale was informed that she needed to provide a death certificate before the flight date. However, she faced challenges obtaining the document promptly and was preoccupied with supporting her grieving husband, Colin, which led to Ryanair rejecting her refund request.

McHale emphasized the lack of empathy from Ryanair, stating that the airline displayed no interest in her circumstances. She highlighted the emotional toll of battling for a refund while coping with her own grief and supporting her family during a difficult time.

In response to her appeal, a Ryanair representative reiterated the airline’s policy of non-refundable tickets and recommended contacting a travel insurer for assistance. Despite McHale’s persistence, Ryanair maintained its stance, citing the terms and conditions agreed upon at the time of booking.

A Ryanair spokesperson defended the decision, stating that all fares are non-refundable, including McHale’s Dublin to Brussels flights. The spokesperson reiterated that McHale had acknowledged and agreed to these terms when making the booking.

The incident has sparked debate over the airline’s policies and the need for more flexibility and discretion in such sensitive situations.
