Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, is renowned for its exceptional features such as live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix. However, Sky is shifting focus from its satellite-based platform to internet-driven products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, potentially paving the way for new competitors.
Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles Sky Q in functionality. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storing extensive TV programs, movies, and sports, the Aura EZ stands out in a market where physical recording options are dwindling.
In addition to aerial recordings, the Aura EZ boasts Freely integration, enabling live TV viewing over broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely offers over 60 live channels and a vast on-demand content library, facilitating easy portability, simple installation, and regular feature updates.
Noteworthy features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and a user-friendly integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the device remotely via the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, allowing scheduling and recording management from any location.
Although Freely lacks the premium sports and movie offerings of Sky, it is a subscription-free service. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for launch in the UK in February 2026 at a retail price of £249.
Meanwhile, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle offering access to major streaming services, including Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and HBO Max, for £24 per month. The bundle, part of the Ultimate TV plan, also provides over 130 premium channels like Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.
Furthermore, Sky Cinema customers will enjoy a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide. The £24 bundle encompasses Netflix Standard with Ads, Disney+ Standard with Ads (from March), HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26), Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March), and over 130 Sky channels.
