The 53-year-old Modern Family star encountered an allergic reaction moments before getting into the car, leading her to rush to the emergency room instead of the award ceremony, causing her to miss the red carpet and alter her evening plans.
Taking to Instagram, Vergara explained her absence from the Emmys, posting a photo of her swollen left eye and apologizing for having to cancel last minute due to an unexpected eye allergy flare-up. She also shared images of herself in a hospital bed and a video of her rinsing her eye in a water fountain. Originally slated to present at the ceremony, comedian Nate Bargatze stepped in to host in her absence.
Supportive messages flooded in from fans, offering well wishes and a speedy recovery to Vergara. Meanwhile, other presenters at the event included Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jude Law, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Coolidge, Colman Domingo, and Tina Fey, with the notable absence of Eric Dane, who was set to present an award but was also missing from the show.
Dane, who recently disclosed his ALS diagnosis, was expected to make his first major public appearance since sharing his health news in a Good Morning America interview earlier in the summer. The Grey’s Anatomy actor announced his diagnosis in April, expressing gratitude for his family’s support during this challenging time and emphasizing his commitment to continue working, including returning to the set of Euphoria.
Among the big winners at the Emmy Awards were Noah Wyle’s acclaimed medical drama “The Pitt,” named Outstanding Drama Series, along with Seth Rogan’s comedy “The Studio” on Apple TV Plus and UK TV drama “Adolescence” featuring Stephen Graham.
