A commercial aircraft had to perform an unscheduled landing after losing one of its wheels during take-off. An alarmed passenger captured the startling incident as the wheel detached and rolled along the runway. Airport personnel swiftly retrieved the missing wheel and additional metal components.
The aircraft, operated by SpiceJet and equipped with a tricycle landing gear system, managed to continue its journey to its intended destination despite the initial scare. The event occurred at Kandla Airport in Gujarat, India, on September 12, with the plane safely landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
Upon landing at 3:51 pm, the pilot taxied the aircraft to the terminal without any issues. All passengers and crew members emerged unscathed, and normal airport operations resumed shortly after the incident, as per reports from What’s The Jam.
This incident follows a recent occurrence involving another SpiceJet flight, which encountered a suspected tailpipe fire at Delhi airport, resulting in a significant delay. In a separate incident earlier this year, an Etihad plane bound for Abu Dhabi had to abort take-off after two wheels exploded, leading to a controlled evacuation and safety measures taken at Melbourne Airport.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident. Both airlines assured the safety and well-being of passengers and crew as their top priority, with necessary precautions and procedures followed in response to the incidents. Repairs were initiated, and airport operations continued with minimal disruptions.
