Tiger Woods’ comeback to the golf scene faces another setback following his recent surgery. Since his serious car accident in 2021, Woods has only participated in 11 tournaments. The former world No. 1, who held the top spot for 281 consecutive weeks, has now dropped to 2001 in the rankings due to his extended time off. His last competition was in 2024 when he failed to make the cut at the Open.
The 49-year-old had to pull out of the Genesis Invitational in February due to personal reasons, and now, with his seventh back surgery announced, his return to golf seems uncertain. Woods underwent a lumbar disc replacement surgery in New York, which is expected to sideline him for at least a year.
Despite showing progress in his fitness regimen earlier this year, Woods faced another setback when he ruptured his Achilles tendon while training. His recent surgery marks his third major operation since 2023. His health struggles began after his car crash in 2021, which led to emergency surgery on his right leg and ankle.
With Woods’ mounting medical procedures and recurring injuries, doubts arise about his future in professional golf. Although he participated in the 2024 Masters, his performance was lackluster, finishing well behind the leader. On a positive note, Woods has been seen supporting his 16-year-old son, Charlie, who is following in his father’s golfing footsteps.
Having played with his son at the 2024 PNC Championship, Woods made a brief return to golf. However, with his latest surgery and ongoing health challenges, his comeback to the PGA Tour seems like a distant possibility.
