Trainer Aidan O’Brien disclosed that Ryan Moore is not expected to return to racing until next year. Moore, the top jockey in the world who rides for O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stable, has been sidelined since September due to a stress fracture of the femur. Christophe Soumillon has been filling in for Moore and has achieved notable success, winning multiple Group 1 races on Ballydoyle horses.
Soumillon will continue to ride for O’Brien at Ascot on Saturday, participating in four Group 1 races. Despite Moore’s recent attendance at races as a spectator, it seems likely that Soumillon will remain in the saddle for the remainder of 2025, including the upcoming Breeders’ Cup in November.
During a Champions Day press conference, O’Brien mentioned that Moore is progressing well but indicated that his return is anticipated for next year. O’Brien emphasized the importance of allowing Moore the necessary time to recover fully from his injury, highlighting Moore’s focus on long-term well-being over short-term returns.
