The British equestrian community is in sorrow following the passing of a rider who lost her life in a horse-riding accident at the Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials in Northamptonshire. Sarah Yorke, aged 37, was participating in the event when the tragic incident occurred.
Immediate medical assistance was provided after Yorke fell at fence three; however, despite efforts, she could not be saved, as confirmed by a statement from British Eventing. The statement also mentioned that her horse, MGH HERA, was unharmed and safely returned to the stable after being evaluated by on-site veterinarians.
As a result of the accident, British Eventing officials decided to cancel the remaining competitions scheduled for Saturday, which included dressage, cross-country, and show jumping segments. Yorke, who had previously achieved victory, was competing in the BE100 class for the first time with her seven-year-old horse.
Rosie Williams, the Chief Executive of British Eventing, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the organization to Sarah’s loved ones. The entire eventing community stands in solidarity with them during this challenging period.
The governing body of the sport announced a comprehensive review would be conducted, and emphasized that the BE Support Trust helpline was accessible for those in need. Additionally, the British Eventing Support Trust extended condolences to Sarah Yorke’s family, friends, and all individuals impacted by the recent tragedy.
In a separate statement, it was mentioned that the British Eventing Support Trust, in collaboration with Sporting Chance, is providing assistance and support to anyone requiring help during this difficult time. A mental health professional can be reached at 07780 008877 at any time for suitable support.
