Waitrose has introduced a new membership program catering to dedicated grocery shoppers who frequently order groceries for home delivery.
Customers can opt for a one-month subscription for £8, a six-month pass for £45, or an annual pass for £85. Without a pass, single delivery slots range from £2 to £4.
By signing up for the annual pass, customers could potentially save up to £123 per year compared to paying £4 per week for individual delivery slots. Additionally, pass holders will enjoy early access to Christmas delivery slots, set to launch in September.
Laura Burbedge, Waitrose’s online director, expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing its online services to provide customers with increased value and a superior shopping experience. Following a successful trial period with numerous customers already enrolled in Delivery Passes, Waitrose anticipates high demand nationwide.
In contrast, Tesco offers a six-month anytime delivery pass for £7.99 per month (£47.94 total) or a 12-month subscription for £6.99 per month (£83.88 total). They also provide an off-peak pass starting at £4.99 for six months or £3.99 for 12 months, with additional options for click and collect services.
Sainsbury’s features an anytime delivery pass at £7.50 per month, with discounted rates for six-month and 12-month subscriptions, as well as a midweek pass option.
Waitrose recently reinstated complimentary tea and coffee benefits for loyalty cardholders, even if they do not make purchases. The supermarket also initiated a trial program allowing customers to borrow reusable cups for their free beverages, aiming to reduce plastic waste. Customers are required to return the cup within a week to a designated drop-off point to avoid a £3 fee, with cup retrieval facilitated by scanning the MyWaitrose card.
Notably, Waitrose informed its clientele via email about the revised policy, emphasizing the ability to claim a free hot drink without prior store purchases and reminding them to bring their reusable cups. A company representative highlighted ongoing trials of the reusable cup initiative in select branches, available for MyWaitrose members and cafe patrons.
