“Zelda Williams Pleads: Stop Circulating AI Deepfake Videos of Robin Williams”

Must Read

Celebrities are facing a surge in deepfake videos circulating online, where individuals are utilizing famous personalities’ images to produce fabricated, AI-generated content, including videos, images, and music.

Joining the growing list of targets is Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams. Zelda has made a heartfelt plea to her followers on Instagram, requesting them to refrain from sending her AI-generated videos featuring her deceased father, who tragically passed away in 2014 at the age of 63 in California.

Expressing her distress, Zelda reiterated, “Please, cease sending me AI videos of Dad. Do not assume I am interested or will find it acceptable, as I do not and will not. If this is an attempt to provoke me, I have encountered worse. I will restrict access and move forward.”

She further added, “Kindly, if you have any sense of decency, discontinue these actions towards him, me, or anyone else. It is pointless, a waste of time and effort, and it is certainly not what he would have wanted.”

Prior to his passing, Robin Williams had been battling mental health challenges following a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. His autopsy revealed that he also suffered from Lewy body dementia, a brain disorder causing sleep disturbances, hallucinations, and motor function impairments.

Reflecting on the situation, Zelda stated, “Reducing the legacies of real individuals to mere resemblances for the purpose of creating distasteful TikTok content is exasperating.”

She highlighted, “You are not producing art; instead, you are creating repulsive, overly-processed imitations of human lives, art, and music, forcibly feeding them to others in hopes of approval. Disgusting,” she concluded.

Zelda is not alone in her criticism of artificial intelligence within the creative industry. Prominent figures such as Tom Hanks, Keanu Reeves, Nicolas Cage, and Emily Blunt have also voiced their disapproval of AI technology.

Recently, several well-known personalities and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) denounced the emergence of an AI talent agency seeking representation for the AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood. In a separate development, AI singer Xania Monet secured a million-dollar record deal, sparking concerns within the music and film sectors about the impact of AI on their professions.
