BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to re-enter the market, following a pause on new customer sign-ups in 2023. Previously, BT had focused on its EE network brand, but now there is a notable shift in strategy. This move will allow existing broadband customers to access BT-branded SIM deals once again.
While specific details are yet to be disclosed, the reintroduction of BT-branded services indicates the company’s commitment to reinforcing its well-established brand presence. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is keen on revitalizing BT’s standing among UK households, aiming to prevent the brand from losing visibility.
Kirkby emphasized the significance of further investments in BT’s brands, products, and services during an event at Wembley, highlighting the company’s recent network enhancements. This relaunch will position BT in direct competition with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
Although pricing details are pending, BT plans to offer bundled services including broadband, landline, and mobile SIM under a unified package with a monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore characterized this move as a strategic endeavor to stay relevant in a fiercely competitive telecom market, emphasizing the importance of execution in meeting real-world demand at scale.
In addition, BT announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be held across Britain and Ireland. Pescatore underscored the significance of this partnership in reconnecting with users, households, and businesses, citing the ability of sports events like UEFA Euro 2028 to foster unity and emotional engagement on a large scale.
