Man Accused of Killing Wife Over Weight Gain, Keeps Marriage Secret

Must Read

A man is accused of killing his wife, allegedly due to her weight gain issues, while keeping his family unaware of their marriage and child. Jonathan Renteria, 25, reportedly strangled lawyer June Bunyan, 37, during an argument where she threatened to leave with their daughter. Renteria is accused of strangling June, resulting in her death.

Following the incident, Renteria is said to have dismembered June’s body and has been charged with her murder. Prosecutors claim Renteria confessed to police that their dispute stemmed from June’s post-pregnancy weight gain. Court records reveal that Renteria and June were married for a year, and their daughter, Regina, was born in July. Surprisingly, Renteria’s father only learned about the marriage after his son’s arrest.

June, originally from Scotland, met Renteria online after moving to the US to pursue a legal career. She was last seen alive on September 4. Detectives are conducting an investigation and searching the couple’s property for evidence following Renteria’s arrest in Ventura County.

Renteria, despite reports of a confession, has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in November. June’s family described her as deeply compassionate. A fundraiser has been organized to bring her remains back to the UK, with donations surpassing £12,600 of the £15,000 goal.
