Blackpool Tower underwent a significant update following a distressing incident during its motorbike show, leading to the evacuation of the audience midway through the performance.
The Globe of Speed rider fell from his bike during the show, with witnesses noting that the bike continued moving and eventually struck him in the head while he was injured. This daring stunt typically involves the rider maneuvering at high speeds inside a steel mesh sphere.
Prompt assistance from fellow performers ensued, and attendees were asked to leave the venue. Shortly after, ambulances and the fire service arrived at the scene, transporting the motorcyclist to the hospital. Blackpool Tower has confirmed that the performer is now conscious and recovering well.
A statement from Blackpool Tower mentioned, “We can confirm that an incident occurred at The Blackpool Tower Circus involving one of our circus artists from the Globe of Speed performance.”
Expressing gratitude, they added, “The performer is conscious and stable but will remain under observation in the hospital as a precautionary measure. We wish to thank all guests for their cooperation during the show and for the well-wishes extended.”
Acknowledging the swift response of Blackpool’s emergency services, the statement continued, “All guests holding tickets for the Blackpool Tower Circus will receive communication from our guest services team shortly.”
A spectator recounted the event to Manchester Evening News, stating, “The rider entered the mesh ball and commenced his performance as usual. However, during the latter part of the act, he lost control of the bike and fell, leading to the unfortunate collision.”
Another witness described being present during the incident and expressed being greatly shaken by the events. Emergency services swiftly arrived at the Promenade, with multiple ambulances and fire engines attending the scene.
