Princess Eugenie has recently announced a significant career move following renewed attention on her mother Sarah Ferguson’s association with Jeffrey Epstein. Eugenie, the daughter of Fergie and Prince Andrew, has launched a new initiative focusing on counterfeit fashion and the exploitation of labor in the bootleg fashion sector. This cause is deeply personal to Eugenie, who co-founded The Anti-Slavery Collective in 2017 with her childhood friend Julia de Boinville.
The campaign, titled Hidden Threads: Fake Fashion – A Human Rights Scandal, seeks to uncover the hidden exploitation within global counterfeit fashion supply chains, spanning from street vendors to unregulated factories. Princess Eugenie shared the initiative’s launch on Instagram, emphasizing the prevalence of forced labor, child labor, and human trafficking behind counterfeit products such as handbags, shoes, and clothing.
Taking part in the project’s unveiling in New York during the United Nations General Assembly and New York Climate Week, Princess Eugenie stated, “Counterfeit fashion perpetuates modern slavery, and The Anti-Slavery Collective is committed to addressing and combatting this issue.” She highlighted the obscured costs to both people and the environment, with millions of individuals subjected to hazardous working conditions and meager wages.
Eugenie’s new campaign urges consumers to reflect on the origins and production processes of counterfeit goods, shedding light on the individuals coerced into manufacturing, distributing, or selling fake products at great personal risk and minimal gain. This call to action aims to raise awareness and prompt ethical consumer behavior.
Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson has faced backlash following the emergence of a leaked email from 2011 where she referred to Epstein as a “supreme friend,” despite publicly denouncing any association with the convicted sex offender. This revelation led to her dismissal as a charity patron for several organizations, including the British Heart Foundation, Teenage Cancer Trust, and others.
