A large-scale search operation resulted in the discovery of the body of an 80-year-old man at a well-known beach in the UK.
Emergency responders, including Police, Coastguard, Lifeboat crews, and South West Ambulance Service, were called to Sidmouth beach in Devon following reports of a person on the rocks on Monday. A lifeboat was dispatched to the area near Jacobs Ladder in an attempt to bring the man back to shore safely.
Tragically, the man was found deceased at the scene after being rescued by the lifeboat team, and authorities have ruled out any suspicions regarding his death. The man’s family has been notified, and during the rescue operation, the seafront was closed to facilitate access for emergency services.
In a statement, Exmouth Police confirmed the discovery of the body and expressed condolences to the man’s family in light of the unfortunate incident.
The statement read: “Exmouth Police, along with Coastguard Search & Rescue Teams from Exmouth and Beer, Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat, the Coastguard helicopter, and South West Ambulance Service, responded to an incident at Big Picket Rock near High Peak between Ladram Bay and Jacobs Ladder beach at Sidmouth.
“The individual was recovered by the Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat’s ‘Speedy Sid’ inshore lifeboat and transported to Sidmouth beach, where regrettably, he was found deceased.
“The family has been informed, and our thoughts are with them during this challenging period. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding for any temporary closures and emergency vehicle disruptions on Sidmouth seafront, as well as the landing of the Coastguard helicopter.”
Numerous individuals have taken to social media to offer condolences and commend the efforts of the emergency services. Messages included expressions such as “Heartbreaking for everyone involved! Hope the teams who attended are taking care of themselves,” and “Condolences to the family. Thank you to all emergency services.”
Other comments expressed sorrow and gratitude, with one person saying, “Very sad – heard the helicopter this morning and hoped for better news,” while others conveyed support and appreciation for the involved parties, stating, “Much love to the family and service staff involved too.
