“Amazon to Discontinue Support for Older Kindle Models”

Must Read

Amazon has announced the end of support for several of its older Kindle models, which will affect the ability to download new content from the Kindle Store. This change will take effect on May 20, 2026, impacting devices like the Kindle 5 and Kindle Paperwhite (1st Generation).

While existing books on these devices will remain accessible, users will no longer be able to purchase, borrow, or add new content to their devices after the specified date. Amazon is proactively notifying affected users via email and offering a 20% discount on select new Kindle models, along with a £15 eBook credit to aid in the transition.

The affected Kindle models include the 1st Generation Kindle (2007), Kindle DX and DX Graphite (2009, 2010), Kindle Keyboard (2010), Kindle 4 (2011), Kindle Touch (2011), Kindle 5 (2012), and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation (2012).

Users who own these devices are advised that they can still read existing downloaded books but won’t be able to access new content once the support ends. Furthermore, deregistering or factory resetting these devices will render them unusable.

For those with affected devices, considering an upgrade may be beneficial, especially with the recent launch of Amazon’s newest Kindle Scribe models in the UK. Introduced last year, these latest models are now available on Amazon UK’s site, offering thinner designs, faster performance, and, for the first time, a color display option.

The new Kindle Scribe starts at £449.99, while the color-display Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is priced from £569.99.
