American Climber Mallory Geis Found Dead in Pakistan

Must Read

Search teams discovered the body of Mallory Geis, an American climber who was the final missing member of a 10-person international mountaineering group that perished in an avalanche on Broad Peak several weeks ago. The recovery was made by local volunteers, as confirmed by Irfan Arshad Khan, the Alpine Club of Pakistan’s president. Geis, aged 39 and residing in San Antonio, Texas, was attempting her first ascent of an 8,000-meter peak in Pakistan.

Earlier this year, Geis had announced on social media that she was shutting down her Pilates studio to embark on a new adventure filled with uncertainty. Her family described her as a radiant presence cherished deeply by her loved ones and friends.

This development concludes the search initiated on July 31 following the tragic incident on Broad Peak involving renowned climber Nirmal Purja. Purja, also known as Nims Dai, a Nepali climber who previously served in the British Army, made headlines for scaling the world’s 14 highest peaks in a groundbreaking 189 days in 2019. The treacherous conditions in northern Pakistan, including avalanches, falling ice and rocks, high altitudes, and unpredictable weather, often lead to accidents during climbing expeditions.
