“British Gas Expert: Keep Home Warm with Oven Heat”

Must Read

An expert from British Gas has shared a tip on how to keep your home warm without using your central heating. Smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron recommends leaving your oven door open after cooking to utilize the residual heat escaping from the appliance.

Rawstron suggests, “After you take out your meal, instead of closing the oven door, keep it open to allow the heat to slowly warm up your kitchen. This method not only helps maintain a cozy environment while eating but also ensures safety by keeping children and pets away from the hot oven.”

In addition, British Gas advises on various winter preparation techniques such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts. Regularly bleeding radiators and scheduling annual boiler servicing are also essential for efficient heating.

As parts of the UK face yellow warnings for snow and ice due to plummeting temperatures, households are urged to monitor their energy usage. With recent increases in energy bills, the average annual cost for gas and electricity for households paying by direct debit is now £1,758 under the price cap regulations.

The price cap sets limits on unit rates and standing charges but does not cap the total energy bill, which still depends on consumption. Those not on fixed energy tariffs fall under the price cap regulation. Pre-payment meter users can expect an annual cap of £1,711, while those paying upon receipt of the bill face a cap of £1,894 annually. The price cap is revised every three months, with the next update scheduled for April 2026.
