A British tourist, Harrison Edward Nada-Kantounas, aged 23, from East London, went missing while swimming with friends at Leigan Beach, Kuta, Bali, on September 17. Tragically, he was caught in a strong rip current and disappeared underwater. His body was discovered with injuries to his head, including a broken nose. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing their deep sorrow over the loss of their beloved son.
His mother expressed gratitude for the support received during this difficult time, acknowledging the kindness shown by strangers in Bali and people worldwide who contributed. Friends remembered Harrison fondly for his humor and warmth, praising his character. However, one of his close friends criticized the response of lifeguards and emergency services, claiming they were slow to react to the situation, ultimately leading to Harrison’s tragic fate.
The friend recounted the devastating experience, highlighting the lack of timely assistance from lifeguards and the delayed arrival of rescue teams the following morning. Despite claims of negligence, the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office stressed the importance of caution during outdoor activities, especially beach visits. A fundraising campaign in memory of Harrison has raised over £27,000 to support his family during this challenging time.
