The Ottawa Rapid have revealed that Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, will take over as head coach starting from the upcoming season. The current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, recently announced her departure from the Northern Super League-leading team at the season’s end.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive soccer career that includes participation in three Women’s World Cups and a bronze medal win at the 2012 Olympics. Having coached in various countries such as Denmark, Mexico, and most recently Saudi Arabia, she brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
According to the Rapid, Moscato has signed a two-season contract and will immediately begin preparations for the 2027 season, focusing on player recruitment. Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed confidence in Moscato, highlighting her leadership qualities, coaching expertise, and in-depth knowledge of Canadian soccer.
Moscato, in response to her appointment, emphasized her excitement in joining a team that has already laid a strong foundation. She aims to further develop the team and create an environment where players can excel, grow, and compete at the highest levels.
Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 games, Ottawa Rapid’s next match is scheduled in Calgary on Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on CBC Gem for fans to watch.
