Horrified parents shielded their children’s eyes as a circus acrobat tragically fell to her death. Marina B, a 27-year-old Spanish performer, lost her life while executing a trapeze stunt at the Paul Busch Circus in Bautzen, east Germany. The incident, witnessed by over 80 shocked audience members, prompted screams as onlookers tried to console their children during the solo act.
Despite prompt assistance from police and paramedics, Marina could not be saved and succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Ralf Huppertz, the head of the Association of German Circus Companies, expressed profound sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the impact on visitors and children as a distressing experience.
Authorities speculated that Marina may have become disoriented on the trapeze, leading to the fatal fall from a height of just five meters. The absence of a safety rope at the time of the accident raised concerns, with Mr. Huppertz noting that self-employed artists like Marina are responsible for their own safety decisions.
Following the tragedy, a notice was posted at the circus announcing its closure due to the loss. Marina, a proud professional hailing from Mallorca, shared her passion for circus arts, as evident from her final Instagram post depicting her mid-performance with the caption “Up here, I work best.”
While the Paul Busch Circus is yet to issue a formal statement, Mayor Karten Vogt conveyed his condolences to the affected families and expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident. The community stands united in grief and support for those impacted by the tragic loss.
