Hikers in an isolated area in Australia’s alpine region of Victoria made a grim discovery of two deceased women. The bodies were found near Lendenfeld Point and reported to authorities around 1pm local time.
Upon receiving the alert, the Search and Rescue Squad along with Air Wing officers promptly responded to the scene for investigation. The women, believed to be in their 20s or 30s, remain unidentified at this point. Victoria Police stated that the deaths do not raise suspicions and could be related to hiking, as the bodies were found near the Cleve Cole Hut camping area.
The Victoria highlands attract numerous visitors for hiking and skiing, especially during the winter months in the Southern Hemisphere. The area features picturesque hiking trails through forests and high plains offering stunning views of the Victorian Alps.
Authorities are seeking public assistance in identifying the deceased individuals, as no missing person reports are currently known. Due to the remote location and challenging conditions, police will camp overnight at the site.
The bodies are scheduled for removal the following day, with police confirming that the incident is unrelated to the ongoing search for Dezi Freeman, a suspect in the shooting of two police officers during a warrant execution. Freeman allegedly fled into the bushland after the shooting.
For further comments, inquiries have been made to Victoria Police by the Mirror.
