Norris, the 35th world champion in F1 history, expressed his joy and relief after a period of uncertainty. On the McLaren team radio, he tearfully thanked his team for making his dreams a reality and dedicated his victory to his parents.
McLaren team principal Zak Brown praised Norris and his teammate Oscar, hailing them as exceptional drivers who contributed to the team’s success. Despite Verstappen’s strong finish in the final races of the season, Norris maintained his lead and sealed the championship in Abu Dhabi.
Norris faced a stewards’ inquiry during the race for an incident involving Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda but escaped punishment. Verstappen, who won the race, could not prevent Norris from clinching the championship, with the British driver finishing ahead of his teammate and securing a podium spot.
