Canada’s national police announced on Monday that a 51-year-old individual from Montreal has been arrested for reportedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier faces charges of making threats to cause harm or death, as stated in a press release by the RCMP. The threats were allegedly conveyed through an email to various undisclosed recipients, including a senator, as revealed by law enforcement authorities.
According to the official charge sheet, the accused also menaced “all Canadian police officers.” Authorities confirmed Porlier’s involvement in a previous incident where he was convicted of arson and vandalism for setting ablaze a church in Toronto back in 2017. The RCMP spokesperson informed CBC News that he was serving probation for those offenses at the time of the recent arrest.
Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as per the information in the news release. It should be noted that the charges against him have not been proven in court.
