The RCMP has described the death of a four-year-old girl and the serious injuries sustained by two toddlers at a residence in southern Manitoba as suspicious. According to a news release from the RCMP, officers from the Manitoba First Nations Police Service were summoned to a home in Long Plain First Nation following reports from first responders indicating that a young child was in medical distress and had injuries on Sunday at around 8 a.m. Tragically, the four-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other children in the household, aged one and two, were transported to the hospital, with one initially in critical condition and the other stable; both are now in stable condition. The RCMP has taken charge of the investigation due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the four-year-old and the severe injuries sustained by the other two children. Supt. Rob Lasson, who heads the Manitoba RCMP major crime services, expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that the community will seek answers regarding what transpired in the home. Lasson reassured residents of Long Plain that the RCMP is collaborating closely with the MFNPS and community leaders in the ongoing investigation.
