“Repeat Offender Given Extended Sentence for Judge Outburst”

Must Read

A repeat offender who directed profanity towards a judge upon receiving an eight-week sentence has now been given an extended term. Angela Shand, with a history of 60 court appearances, made obscene gestures and verbal attacks towards Judge Mark Watson at Nottingham Crown Court, leading to additional jail time being imposed.

Judge Watson emphasized Shand’s troubling behavior towards Nottinghamshire Constabulary and her extensive record of offenses against law enforcement. He highlighted the defendant’s lack of respect for law enforcement officers and the disruptive nature of her actions.

This incident mirrors a previous case involving Constance Marten, who faced criticism from the court for her disruptive behavior during her own trial. The court stressed the importance of respecting law enforcement officers and the public they serve.

Following her initial outburst in court, Shand refused to apologize and was uncooperative during contempt of court proceedings. This led to Judge Watson adding four weeks to her original eight-week sentence. The court noted Shand’s disrespectful demeanor towards authority figures and her lack of remorse for her actions.

The prosecution detailed Shand’s violent behavior towards a police officer during an incident in April, where she also exhibited racial harassment towards another officer. Shand pleaded guilty to assault and racially-aggravated harassment charges stemming from the altercation.

With a lengthy criminal record of 60 previous convictions and 157 offenses, including numerous incidents involving law enforcement, Shand’s behavior has been a recurring issue. Despite claims of seeking assistance from the church, Shand’s short temper and lack of self-control have continued to land her in trouble.

Her defense attorney acknowledged her wrongdoing and explained her challenges with managing her emotions, expressing reluctance to exacerbate her situation further. Shand’s disruptive behavior in court reflects a pattern of confrontational interactions with law enforcement and the legal system.
