During the era of Friends, Matthew Perry’s character Chandler Bing was immensely popular among viewers. However, following his passing in 2023, many found it challenging to reconcile the news of his ketamine addiction with the beloved sitcom persona they had grown to love.
Netflix has now announced a forthcoming three-part docuseries titled The One About Matthew Perry, promising a more comprehensive look at the life of the Canadian actor.
The series will delve into Perry’s evolution from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the successful NBC show. According to the streaming service, the documentary will feature exclusive insights from Perry’s inner circle, including close friends and his sister Mia Perry Bowick, a grief specialist.
Bowick, who has publicly shared her grieving process after Perry’s demise, expressed, “It has taken me some time to be prepared to share these recollections and portray what it was like to love Matthew throughout all the intricacies of his life — to perceive him as a complete individual, beyond just Chandler, and not solely as someone battling addiction,” in a statement.
At the age of 54, Perry was discovered deceased from a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub.
Several individuals have pleaded guilty to different offenses related to providing him with the substance. Dr. Salvador Plasencia, one of them, who sold ketamine to Perry, is presently appealing his 30-month prison term.
