“Vice President Vance Discusses Canada Trade Deal at Fundraiser”

Must Read

U.S. Vice President JD Vance shared his views on the recent trade agreement with Canada during a fundraising event on Wednesday. Vance mentioned that Prime Minister Mark Carney attempted to appear tougher than U.S. President Donald Trump, while giving credit to Conservative MP Jamil Jivani for supporting Canada.

At the private event in Southampton, N.Y., Vance described Carney as a “friendly individual” with whom he gets along well. However, Vance remarked that Carney tries to project strength by challenging Trump, despite making concessions on various issues.

Vance highlighted the role of Jivani, stating that the Canadian MP, who has a positive relationship with the U.S., has been influential behind the scenes. He also dismissed Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre as insignificant in the trade negotiations.

Regarding the trade discussions, Vance emphasized the importance of changing Canada’s approach and securing beneficial outcomes for the U.S. He acknowledged the shifting dynamics in the relationship, pointing out the impact of Trump’s tariffs and confrontational stance with Canada.

The negotiations, led by U.S. representatives Greer and Lutnick, have seen Jivani actively participating and advocating for mutual benefits in areas such as energy and automotive sectors. Vance praised Jivani’s involvement and described him as a valuable ally in the negotiations.

Jivani’s efforts have sparked controversy within the Canadian Conservative Party, with Poilievre expressing dissent over Jivani’s approach to trade talks with the U.S. Despite the internal disagreements, Jivani’s engagement with U.S. officials and his commitment to securing favorable terms for Canada have been noteworthy.

As the discussions continue, both countries are working towards finalizing the trade agreement before the looming deadline. The developments in the negotiations reflect the intricate dynamics of the Canada-U.S. relationship and the efforts to navigate trade challenges under the current administration.
