“Musetti Secures ATP Finals Spot After Djokovic’s Withdrawal”

Must Read

Lorenzo Musetti faced a tense period before securing a spot at the ATP Finals. Initially on track to qualify, a setback at the Paris Masters allowed Felix Auger-Aliassime to overtake him in the Race to Turin.

In Athens, Musetti knew his fate hinged on winning the ATP 250 tournament to secure his Finals spot. Despite a loss to Novak Djokovic in the final, Djokovic’s subsequent withdrawal opened the door for Musetti to claim his place.

Expressing his joy on social media, Musetti shared that his dream had come true. The Italian swiftly transitioned to the ATP Finals in Turin, where he is scheduled to face Taylor Fritz.

Although aiming for his third career title at the Hellenic Championship, Musetti faced disappointment in Athens. However, Djokovic’s announcement post-match relieved Musetti, who acknowledged Djokovic’s decision to delay the withdrawal notice.

With Djokovic out, Musetti took his place at the Finals, causing a reshuffle in the alternate list. Casper Ruud stepped in as the second alternate behind Alexander Bublik, both set to earn without playing unless required as replacements. Ruud, fresh from a holiday, joined the event in Turin and was spotted watching matches sporting a new haircut.
