Cabinet members Wes Streeting and Lisa Nandy delivered an energetic performance of Oasis’ hit song, “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” They were joined by former shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth at the renowned Mirror party during the Labour Party Conference. Health Secretary Mr. Streeting and Culture Secretary Ms. Nandy, along with other politicians, showcased their karaoke skills on stage.
The event kicked off with a moving performance by Justice Minister Alex Davies-Jones singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” alongside Hillsborough campaigners. Margaret Aspinall, who lost her son in the 1989 tragedy, passionately advocated for a new law to prevent cover-ups without dilution.
The party, organized in collaboration with InHouse Communications and featuring drinks from Diageo, is a yearly post-Keynote speech tradition after the Prime Minister’s address. Mr. Streeting took the lead with “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” joined by Labour MP Oliver Ryan. MPs, journalists, and political staff took turns on stage, letting loose after a hectic conference.
Labour MP Mark Ferguson belted out Pulp’s “Common People,” while Housing Secretary Steve Reed crooned “Sweet Caroline.” MPs Jen Craft and Christian Wakeford rocked out to Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag,” and The Mirror’s Mikey Smith led a spirited rendition of Green Day’s “American Idiot.”
The party venue in Liverpool was packed with hundreds of guests partying until the early hours. The iconic Mirror Chicken, known for following politicians for years, displayed some dance moves to the delight of the attendees.
The festive atmosphere followed Keir Starmer’s keynote speech, where he vowed to challenge Nigel Farage, although Starmer was not present at the event.
