“30-Year Fugitive Unmasked as Serial Rapist in Sydney”

Must Read

A man who managed to avoid capture for thirty years has been identified as a serial rapist responsible for a two-year spree of terror in the early 1990s.

Glenn Gary Cameron, aged 61, confessed to multiple charges related to the sexual assault of eight women between 1991 and 1993. His true identity as the notorious ‘Night Stalker’ or the ‘Moore Park rapist’ was unveiled through DNA analysis of a beer glass.

Cameron was apprehended at Sydney International Airport in February following a review of cold cases utilizing advanced DNA and fingerprint techniques. The discovery that Cameron’s daughter’s DNA matched samples from four historic cases was made via a familial search on the national criminal DNA database.

Upon learning that Cameron was en route from Alice Springs to Thailand, law enforcement officers set up a surveillance operation at the Sydney airport. They discreetly collected a beer glass and fork used by Cameron to verify the DNA match, leading to his swift arrest.

Cameron has since confessed to over a dozen charges, including 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault involving a weapon threat, targeting eight women across Sydney during the mentioned period.

The victims’ ages varied, with the youngest, now 48, being 17 at the time of the assaults, and the eldest, now 77, being 45. The attacks typically followed a similar pattern, often involving victims of Asian descent near train stations who were enticed with cleaning job offers before being assaulted at Moore Park in Sydney’s eastern region.

Initially denying the accusations during police questioning, Cameron later admitted to the offenses. While acknowledging his past behavior, he denied engaging in sexual assault, claiming he had never forced anyone into such acts.

Currently in custody since his arrest, Cameron has pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including aggravated sexual assault, attempted aggravated sexual assault, and indecent assault. He has also acknowledged an additional 14 charges, which will be considered during sentencing.

Reports indicate that Cameron worked at a funeral parlor in Newtown in the early 1990s after a brief stint in the army that ended due to drug use and absence without leave. He described his younger self as reckless and indifferent to his own safety.

Despite his criminal activities, Cameron was in a relationship that led to marriage during the same period. He became a father in 1993 when he committed his final crime, with a second child born in 1998.

His second marriage, to a woman from Thailand who relocated to Australia, began around 2008-2009, and the couple moved to Alice Springs in 2012-2013.

Cameron is scheduled to receive his sentencing next month.
