Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Donald Trump are proposed to lead a temporary governing body in Gaza as part of a new plan introduced by President Trump, with the goal of bringing the Palestine conflict to an end.
During a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump, the White House revealed a peace plan that involves establishing new governance in Gaza to halt the ongoing war. Hamas has acknowledged not receiving a written copy of the proposal yet.
The plan put forward by Trump outlines the formation of a temporary governing board, to be led by him and including Tony Blair. The proposal does not mandate the evacuation of Gaza residents and stipulates an immediate cessation of hostilities if both sides agree to the terms. It also requires the release of all remaining hostages within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance of the plan.
Following their meeting, Trump urged Palestinians to take control of their fate, stressing the responsibility afforded to them through the proposal. He assured Israel of full support from the United States in combating Hamas if the peace deal is not accepted.
Describing the day as historic for peace, Trump emphasized the significance of the initiative in achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. Netanyahu echoed Trump’s sentiments, praising the President’s commitment to resolving the conflict in Gaza.
The peace offering, which has not yet gained Hamas’ approval, consists of 20 key points, with specific details not fully disclosed. It envisions a temporary governing body led by Trump and Blair to oversee stability in Gaza.
Reports suggest that the deal may include amnesty for Hamas fighters and safe passage for their leaders to depart Gaza for another country. Certain Israeli officials advocate for continued military action until Hamas is completely eradicated.
In another development, Netanyahu reached out to Qatar’s Prime Minister to express regret over a recent military operation that resulted in unintended casualties. The statement from the White House affirmed Israel’s commitment to respecting Qatari sovereignty and refraining from similar actions in the future.
Leaders from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates expressed support for the US-led initiative during discussions in Cairo, emphasizing the importance of backing the peaceful resolution in Gaza.
Outside the US diplomatic office in Tel Aviv, protesters gathered to demand the release of Israeli hostages and an end to the conflict, highlighting the urgency of the situation. They appealed to Trump to intervene and bring about a resolution to the crisis.
The UK’s recent recognition of Palestine was also mentioned, with Keir Starmer commending Trump’s efforts to broker peace and provide humanitarian aid. Starmer urged all parties to collaborate with the US to finalize the agreement, calling for immediate action to end the suffering and establish a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
