Police have initiated an inquiry following the discovery of a newborn baby girl left in a cardboard box at the edge of a road. The finding occurred at approximately 6:50 am on Wednesday, September 24, when a passerby came across the infant, who seemed to be only a few hours old. The baby, whose umbilical cord had already been cut, was swiftly taken to the hospital where doctors confirmed she was in good health.
A troubling video of the incident showed the newborn inside the box that was positioned on a roadside wall in Tuguegarao City, Philippines. May Asuncion, a social worker from the City Social Welfare and Development Office, mentioned that the baby is currently stable but will undergo observation at the hospital for up to five days to ensure her ongoing well-being.
Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the prompt response of local residents and authorities, emphasizing the value of every life. The police are determined to identify the person responsible for abandoning the child. A police spokesperson echoed the sentiment, encouraging individuals with relevant information to come forward to ensure justice for the baby.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities strive to uncover leads that could lead to identifying the baby’s parents or those accountable for her abandonment. This incident follows a separate case where a newborn baby was discovered abandoned with a stone in his mouth and his lips sealed shut to stifle cries in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, India. The helpless infant was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Detectives are currently examining delivery records from nearby hospitals to trace women who recently gave birth.
