“Triple Murder Suspect Remanded in Custody”

Must Read

A man was brought before court on charges of murdering his father, mother, and brother. Robert O’Connor, a 31-year-old resident of Drumgowna, Louth Village, faced accusations of killing his father Mark, aged 54, mother Louise, aged 56, and brother Evan, aged 27, at their residence in the village. The bodies were discovered around 10 am on a Monday.

Appearing in front of Judge Stephanie Coggans at a special session of Drogheda District Court, Robert was formally charged with three counts of murder. Garda Sane O’Malley from Drogheda Garda Station testified to detaining, charging, and cautioning Robert regarding the murders.

Robert was apprehended at Drogheda Garda Station at 4:43 pm and was cautioned by the authorities, to which he remained silent. His solicitor, Paul James Moore, requested a psychiatric evaluation for Robert, highlighting his history with mental health services since the age of 22. Judge Coggans approved the assessment and granted legal aid to Mr. Moore for one counsel representation.

Given the nature of the charges, Robert did not seek bail during the District Court appearance, as bail hearings for murder charges are exclusively heard in the High Court. He was remanded in custody to appear via video link at Drogheda District Court on Monday, October 6, at 10:30 am. Throughout the brief hearing, Robert, dressed in a grey top and black tracksuit bottoms, chose not to address the court.

Accompanied by the family’s garda liaison officer, Robert’s brother Cian was present in court during the hearing.
