The latest Channel 4 documentary will showcase the final CCTV footage capturing Jay Slater alive just hours before his tragic death. This film aims to dispel the mysteries surrounding his passing and debunk various speculations circulating on social media platforms.
Jay Slater, a 19-year-old from Lancashire’s Oswaldtwistle, went missing on June 17, 2024, triggering an extensive search operation that concluded with the discovery of his body near Masca village on July 15.
Following Jay’s disappearance, a flurry of online activity fueled by conspiracy theories erupted, spearheaded by online sleuths of true-crime genres. The case garnered worldwide attention, with an excess of 30 million online videos deliberating on Jay’s whereabouts.
The upcoming documentary from Channel 4 will feature the final CCTV footage of Jay, paired with the messages he had sent. The footage captures Jay at Papagayo Nightclub at 11:55 pm, exiting at 01:04 am, and later being denied re-entry at 1:12 am, with a doorman seemingly directing his attention elsewhere.
Subsequent messages from Jay to his friend Lucy at 2:40 am and 2:48 am indicate his inability to re-enter the nightclub and his friend’s offer to fetch him. Jay’s response at 2:49 am suggests he is determined to continue his own quest.
The last known CCTV sighting of Jay was at Tramps Nightclub at 3:07 am. It is presumed that he departed from the club and tragically met his fate later that morning.
According to a coroner’s report in July, Jay mentioned to his friends that he was lost in the mountains and needed a drink while attempting a 14-hour journey home after consuming drugs and alcohol the night before.
