“Rescued Ukrainian Lions Find Sanctuary in UK”

Must Read

Three lions that were rescued from a war-torn area in Ukraine and had a harrowing journey to safety have now found refuge at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Arriving in Doncaster after a three-day road trip from Kyiv, the lions, named Oleg, Rafael, and Shanti, were welcomed by rangers who were overjoyed to see them finally settling into their new home.

Funded by public donations, the lions traveled 1,700 miles to escape the conflict in Ukraine. Despite facing a 15-hour delay at the Polish border, the lions made it to Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Saturday morning. They are currently undergoing health checks by the park’s vet and will soon be released into the safety of the five-acre ‘Lion Country’ enclosure.

Cheryl Williams, co-founder of the park, expressed her delight at the successful rescue mission, emphasizing the importance of providing a safe and peaceful environment for the lions. She mentioned that the lions rescued last year from Ukraine have integrated well into their new home and are welcoming the new arrivals.

The head of carnivores at the park, Bex Brown, shared her excitement at the lions’ arrival and assured that they would receive proper care and support to help them adjust to their new surroundings. Oleg, Rafael, and Shanti each have unique backgrounds, with Oleg being raised by humans and longing for lion companionship, while Rafael and Shanti were found next to their dying mother in a private menagerie.

The lions’ arrival at Yorkshire Wildlife Park was met with curiosity from the existing pride of lions saved by the park last year. The new lions will be closely monitored and allowed to acclimate to their new environment before being released into the larger enclosures. This rescue marks the third successful mission by the park, which has a history of providing a safe haven for lions in need.

The rescue efforts by Yorkshire Wildlife Park have garnered international recognition for their commitment to saving and rehabilitating lions from challenging circumstances. The park’s dedication to animal welfare and conservation is evident in their ongoing efforts to provide a better life for these magnificent creatures.
