Holidaymakers with plans to visit a resort in the European Union are being cautioned about dangerous floods that have resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals.
Bulgaria, specifically the seaside resort in Burgas Province, has witnessed devastating scenes as flooding caused havoc in multiple villages. Southeastern Bulgaria and the Black Sea coast have faced severe conditions, leading to the declaration of a state of emergency.
Minister Daniel Mitov verified the three fatalities, indicating that one person died in a building basement when water breached the structure. The other victims were rescuers responding to distress calls. Rescue efforts, including naval assistance, have been intensified to locate missing individuals.
Tragically, some individuals may never be found as the floods swept away vehicles and trailers into the sea. Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov stated readiness to deploy additional forces if requested by the Ministry of Interior.
The military has dispatched rescue teams on two boats to aid those affected by the floods. Heavy rainfall is predicted for the region in the coming day. More than 10 fire trucks have been mobilized in the broader Black Sea area, including Elenite, to support flood-affected residents, as reported by Bulgaria’s NOVA TV.
Footage depicts water inundating the streets of Elenite and partially submerging a car. In other parts of Europe, a significant alert was issued for popular Spanish destinations such as Ibiza, Formentera, and Valencia, where flooding occurred due to heavy rain.
Travelers preparing for overseas trips are advised to exercise caution following the announcement of a red weather alert by forecasters. Disruptive weather led to water leaks in Ibiza airport, causing disruptions in baggage security. Submerged vehicles were observed in various parts of the country trying to navigate floodwaters.
Similar situations are unfolding in Greece, with beloved spots like Corfu, Oiniades, and Aitoliko in Aitoloakarnania experiencing adverse impacts. Some residents found themselves trapped in their homes due to excessive water levels.
