The Ontario police watchdog is currently looking into a collision involving a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, that occurred on Friday. According to Monica Hudon, a spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call on Kingston Road.
The collision between the police cruiser and the civilian vehicle took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road. The individuals in the civilian vehicle were taken to the hospital, with one child sustaining a severe injury, as stated by Hudon.
Durham police confirmed that their officers were on their way to a call when the accident happened at the Kingston Road and Brock Road junction on Friday evening. Const. Nick Gluckstein informed CBC Toronto via email that the SIU was notified and has initiated an investigation as per its mandate.
Following the incident, Durham police announced the closure of Kingston Road at Brock Road in both directions and restricted southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue for the purpose of a collision inquiry. Subsequently, Durham police updated that the roadways were reopened around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
