Dolly Parton, renowned for her rise from humble beginnings to immense success, has not only utilized her life story in her music but also in the creation of a theme park, a podcast, and now a musical set to hit Broadway later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the production vows to present an authentic narrative, as shared by Dolly herself, through the melodic tales that have shaped her journey.
In a recent video announcement, the 80-year-old icon assured viewers that the musical would stay true to her experiences. She emphasized that the production delves into her genuine roots and the profound moments of loss, love, and self-discovery that have defined her path.
The musical is set to feature a blend of fresh compositions tailored for the show alongside some of Dolly’s most iconic hits, such as “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Performances are slated to commence in New York City on December 7, running through November 21, 2027.
Expressing her excitement, Dolly, whose illustrious career spans nearly seven decades and includes over 3,000 songs and more than 100 million albums sold globally, deemed this Broadway venture a lifelong dream realized. The musical, which premiered in Nashville last summer with a sold-out six-week run, has garnered immense praise from audiences for its genuine portrayal of Dolly’s profound impact on her admirers.
Director Bartlett Sher emphasized the profound connection audiences have with Dolly, citing the joy and inspiration she has brought to countless individuals over the years. The show’s statement underscores Dolly’s unfiltered narrative, portraying a more authentic portrayal of her life beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her image.
Tickets for the musical will be available for purchase starting Friday, July 10, offering fans the opportunity to witness Dolly’s captivating story portrayed on the grand stage.
