Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit against her former tour manager, alleging a scheme of blackmail to coerce her into signing a lengthy contract under threat of being falsely accused of drug trafficking. The lawsuit, filed in California and obtained by CBC News, claims that Keren Urinov demanded to be hired as Morissette’s tour director for 15 years and receive significant compensation, or else she would report Morissette to British authorities for drug trafficking.
In 2025, Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired temporarily as a tour manager for Morissette’s world tour. While traveling from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, Urinov was allegedly arrested at the airport after British authorities found marijuana and xylazine in her bag. However, she was released after showing her Israeli medical marijuana license.
Following the tour, Urinov sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a 15-year contract with substantial pay and benefits. The lawsuit also accuses Urinov of mishandling tour responsibilities, including making costly mistakes and withholding information about her past, such as a previous arrest for drug smuggling in Latin America.
Morissette, described as “reluctant” to take legal action, stated that she had no choice but to sue to expose Urinov’s scheme and prevent being coerced into a long-term working relationship with someone she deemed incompetent and manipulative. Morissette is seeking a trial by jury in this case. CBC News has reached out to Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment but has not received a response yet.
