The Vancouver Rise have received additional support with the recent signing of two defenders. This move aims to strengthen the team ahead of a crucial match against the Halifax Tides on Saturday. Chantelle Swaby, previously with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who played for AFC Toronto in the NSL, have joined the Rise.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller emphasized the valuable qualities both players bring to the team as they strive to position themselves for the playoffs. Swaby, 28, brings extensive experience from various leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League and France’s top division. She is known for her composure in high-pressure game situations and vocal leadership on the field.
Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement about returning home to play for the Rise. The Burnaby native is thrilled to compete in front of a hometown crowd and be closer to her family once again. These signings follow the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue legal studies in New York, and Kirstin Tynan, who was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.
The Vancouver Rise, current record 5-9-1, are focused on securing a playoff spot as they trail behind Halifax by five points. Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the team’s determination to return to the playoffs and showcase their competitiveness until the end of the season. This critical phase of the season underscores the team’s commitment to achieving their postseason goals.
