“Darkwing Duck Revival: Disney+ Greenlights New Series”

Must Read

A mysterious figure emerges through a cloud of smoke, embodying the essence of surprise! The nostalgic theme song of the ’90s animated series, Darkwing Duck, hints at its unexpected return, and indeed, a revival is in the works. Disney+ has officially greenlit a brand-new series, marking a comeback 35 years after the original show’s debut.

The revamped storyline introduces Darkwing Duck stuck in an alternate reality where his heroic deeds are unknown. A rebellious teenager named Duckie, well-versed in his past heroics, arrives to coax the egotistical superhero back into action. While the narrative is fresh, it was crafted in collaboration with Tad Stones, the creator of the original series. Iconic characters from the classic franchise will make a comeback, voiced by renowned talents.

Mark Hamill is set to voice the character of Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck, the protector of St. Canard and the enigmatic “Terror that Flaps in the Night.” The announcement of the reboot on Instagram garnered mixed reactions from fans, particularly concerning the absence of the original voice actor, Jim Cummings, who brought the character to life.

Seth Rogen, a Canadian actor, will lend his voice to Darkwing’s scatterbrained sidekick, Launchpad McQuack. Lizzy Caplan will voice Gosalyn Mallard, Darkwing’s adopted daughter, while Venezuelan-American actor Lilimar Hernandez takes on the role of Duckie. The original Darkwing Duck series premiered in 1991 on the Disney Channel, running for 91 episodes and receiving acclaim until around 1997. The crime-fighting duck also made appearances in Nintendo NES and Game Boy video games.

Rogen’s production company, Point Grey Pictures, known for producing Disney+ content like The Muppet Show, will be at the helm of the new Darkwing Duck series. The team at Point Grey expressed excitement for the project, echoing the iconic character’s catchphrase: “Disney said, ‘Let’s get dangerous,’ and we said, ‘Hell yeah.'”
