An investment firm that enlisted various sports celebrities to join Formula 1 as co-owners of the Alpine team is reportedly considering selling its share. Otro Capital was part of a group that acquired almost a quarter of the Enstone-based team back in 2023.
Among the high-profile personalities involved were Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who co-own Wrexham AFC and acquired a portion of the team through their firm, Maximum Effort Investments. Notably, other notable investors included former world No.1 golfer Rory McIlroy, two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, football players Juan Mata and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and three-time Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Despite the star-studded ownership, Otro Capital is reportedly exploring the possibility of selling its stake in the Alpine team, as per the Sports Business Journal. The team’s value stood at around £685 million when the investment was made two years ago, reflecting the growing popularity of F1 worldwide and the subsequent rise in team valuations.
While Otro Capital stands to make a significant profit on their initial investment if they decide to sell, discussions about a potential sale are said to be in the early stages. It remains uncertain whether Reynolds, McElhenney, or RedBird Capital Partners, another member of the consortium, are also contemplating a sale. Despite the team’s current position at the bottom of the constructors’ championship with only 20 points this season, the decision to sell remains unclear.
Alpine’s lackluster performance this year can be attributed to their focus on developing their car for the 2026 season rather than the current one. Additionally, with plans to race with new Mercedes power units next season, the team aims to improve its competitiveness as the current Renault engines lag behind rivals.
As for the team’s future drivers for 2026, Pierre Gasly has secured a contract extension, while speculation surrounds Franco Colapinto’s future following a scoreless season so far. Sky has also announced a price reduction for its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering substantial savings and a wide range of live matches, including 215 live Premier League games next season.
