“EE Mobile Users Warned of Urgent Scam Texts”

Must Read

EE mobile users are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts at Bitdefender have alerted that some EE customers are receiving urgent messages stating they risk losing EE reward points unless they take immediate action.

According to Bitdefender, scammers are pretending to be affiliated with EE to entice individuals into clicking on deceptive links that lead to fraudulent websites. These sites are crafted to obtain login credentials for illicit purposes.

The success of this scam hinges on creating a sense of urgency, hoping that users will act hastily without thinking things through.

Bitdefender explained, “Scammers are employing a specific tactic by setting tight deadlines to give the impression of imminent loss. This urgency is a form of manipulation, and the link does not direct you to EE but to a bogus site.”

Genuine EE alerts will only appear within official EE accounts, not through unsolicited texts. Any message pressuring quick action or featuring a countdown should raise suspicions. Suspicious texts should be forwarded to 7726 and then deleted.

This type of scam has targeted EE customers in the past. Users reported receiving authentic-looking fake messages about reward points earlier this year.

One customer shared, “I received a text regarding my rewards and followed the link to what appeared to be a legitimate EE website. Please exercise caution.”

Another customer admitted, “I clicked on the link and entered my phone number before realizing it was an EE rewards scam.”

EE has reiterated that it does not run a points program and has disclosed examples of scam messages, including one urging users to click a link to redeem expiring rewards.

EE’s latest advice is as follows:

– Avoid clicking on unknown links in text messages
– Refrain from responding to suspicious messages
– Do not call the number provided in the message
– Never disclose personal or financial information

EE users are advised to stay vigilant against such scams.
