“Extreme Weather Chaos Hits Spanish Resorts”

Must Read

Extreme weather conditions have caused chaos in a popular British vacation destination, with reports of rain leaking through the roof of Ibiza Airport. Several well-known Spanish resorts are on high alert due to severe flooding leading to cars submerged underwater. A red weather alert has been issued for tourists visiting the Balearic party island, anticipating significant travel disruptions.

Videos circulated on social media depict heavy rain pouring through the airport ceiling onto luggage carousels, prompting one user to exclaim, “It’s raining inside Ibiza airport.” Earlier warnings had advised travelers to prepare for torrential rain in Ibiza and Formentera, with a heightened risk of flooding and sudden water surges.

Spanish authorities have cautioned about “Torrential rains in Ibiza and Formentera, exceeding 180 mm in twelve hours, posing an extraordinary danger with potential flooding and rapid water level increases.” Social media posts also show motorists navigating through floodwaters reaching window height in certain areas of the island.

These weather events follow a tragic incident where a young boy lost his life and his father went missing during severe floods in a popular spot for British tourists in Spain. Heavy rainfall and flooding affected various regions of Spain, with the Cataluna area experiencing the worst impact. The national weather agency recorded up to 20 liters of rainfall per hour, prompting a yellow warning.

Unfortunately, the body of a boy, believed to be around 11 or 12 years old, was discovered in the flooded River Anoia near Barcelona. Emergency services are actively searching for the missing father. Witnesses reported that their vehicle was swept away in flooded conditions, leading rescue teams to conduct zone-by-zone searches to locate the father, who may have been carried away by the high floodwaters in the river.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the region grapples with the aftermath of these devastating weather events.
