“Man Gets 20 Years for Attempted Murder in Domestic Dispute”

Must Read

A man has been handed a lengthy prison sentence for attempting to kill his girlfriend following a dispute over his communication with other women. Michael Cosgrove, 46, strangled his partner on two separate occasions after a concert in Manchester last year, leaving her unconscious. He then jumped out of a window when police arrived at her residence in Stockport.

Despite denying the charges, Cosgrove was convicted of attempted murder at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court. The altercation stemmed from the discovery of his messages to other women on a dating app, leading to a violent outburst after a concert they attended together.

During the incident, Cosgrove pinned the victim to the bed and strangled her, causing significant injuries. The woman’s attempts to escape were thwarted as Cosgrove continued to assault her. Neighbors alerted the authorities, and evidence from the scene, including photos and audio recordings, supported the prosecution’s case.

Following his arrest, Cosgrove displayed injuries from his attempt to flee and was found guilty of attempted murder and intentional strangulation. The victim, who has since relocated due to the trauma, expressed feelings of betrayal and humiliation during the trial.

Despite claims of remorse from his defense, the judge noted Cosgrove’s lack of genuine regret and his failure to acknowledge his role in domestic abuse. He received a 20-year prison term, with a restraining order imposed against him. The court highlighted the lasting impact on the victim and emphasized the need for accountability in cases of domestic violence.

Greater Manchester Police commended the victim for her courage in supporting the investigation, underscoring the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
