A father was found by his son on the roadside, critically injured after being struck by a speeding motorcyclist. The incident occurred in April 2023 in Keston, south east London, where 86-year-old Kumar Singh was hit by Daniel Redpath, 25, who was riding a 125cc Aprilia bike with only a provisional license. Redpath had lost his full license due to accumulating six points within two years of passing his test.
Witnesses rushed to help Mr. Singh after he was thrown into the air and landed on the road. Investigations revealed that Redpath might have been traveling at speeds up to 64mph in a 40mph zone, failing to display the required two “L” plates for provisional drivers. Additionally, his tires were deemed unsafe.
Following the incident, Redpath underwent a breathalyzer test which showed negative for alcohol but positive for cannabis. However, a subsequent blood test indicated he was under the legal limit for cannabis.
Mr. Singh’s son described the traumatic scene and its impact on him and his family. He expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of his father, a respected and active member of society. The son highlighted the ongoing emotional struggles and sleep disturbances he faces due to the tragic event.
Mr. Singh, a former Post Office and NHS worker, had been actively volunteering before his untimely death, just days before his wife’s birthday and months before their golden wedding anniversary.
Redpath had a history of driving offenses, including a previous conviction for driving while disqualified. In court, he admitted to causing death by careless driving and driving without a license. Despite expressing remorse, Redpath was sentenced to 21 months in custody and a three-year driving ban by Judge Richard Marks, KC, who emphasized the seriousness of the consequences of Redpath’s actions.
